What matters on this route
The amount shown covers Busan Station to Gyeongju Station only. After arrival, historic areas and many accommodations require another ride. That local connection affects the trip budget but is not a KORAIL Pass-covered intercity ticket.
A short rail leg can still mean several local connections
For a Busan-based day trip, list four local legs: accommodation to Busan Station, Gyeongju Station to your first stop, your last stop back to Gyeongju Station, and Busan Station back to the accommodation. Price and time these separately from the KTX return. The shortest-looking train ride is not necessarily the simplest complete excursion.
Continue to Seoul without returning to Busan
If Gyeongju is a stop on the way north, enter Busan–Gyeongju and Gyeongju–Seoul instead of a Busan return. Decide what happens to your luggage during the visit and verify both booked trains. Keeping your bags in Busan may be convenient for a day trip, but does not work for an onward itinerary unless you deliberately return to collect them.
Check local routes with the Gyeongju City transport information center. Search the station return from the actual last stop, which may differ from the arrival connection. If the available connection leaves little margin before the train, shorten the visit or book a later departure; do not assume the rail pass removes the need for a workable transfer.
Tickets or a KORAIL Pass?
This shorter leg rarely tells the whole pass story by itself. Its real role may be as one covered requirement inside a larger Seoul–Gyeongju–Busan plan. The optimizer counts it once, leaves ineligible travel uncovered and compares the complete scenario.
