What matters on this route
KTX serves Gyeongju Station, which is separate from the historic center and its major sightseeing areas. Treat the onward city transfer as a distinct local-transport requirement; it is not included in the standard KTX amount shown above.
If your itinerary continues to Busan, enter Gyeongju–Busan as its own dated journey. That preserves the real coverage pattern instead of pretending Seoul–Busan was one continuous ride.
Choose a Gyeongju stopover or a separate return
A traveler continuing south should compare two plans: Seoul–Gyeongju followed by Gyeongju–Busan, versus reaching Busan first and making a separate Gyeongju return. The first avoids retracing the intercity route but requires a plan for luggage during the stop. The second can keep your bags at one accommodation but adds a rail leg. Neither advantage should be converted into an invented cash saving.
Price the station-to-sight journey in both directions
Set your first sightseeing stop as the destination in a local route search, not merely “Gyeongju.” For the return, search from your last stop back to the KTX station. Bus waiting, a taxi fallback and the walk to the stop belong in this comparison. Keep a separate cutoff for leaving the sightseeing area so the final connection is not squeezed by a fixed train.
