App taxi, street taxi or tourist taxi?

The Korea Tourism Organization’s January 2026 taxi guidance names k.ride and Uber Taxi as current options. k.ride supports social login and international-card registration, while Uber operates through the familiar app with Korea taxi services. Enter a destination the driver can use
Business names can have duplicates, and an English attraction name may not match the navigation database. Prefer the Korean street address or a map pin. For a station, specify the exact station and useful exit; for an airport, specify terminal and departure or arrival level if the app asks.
Compare the pickup pin with your actual side of the road. Large stations, malls and hotels can have restricted stopping zones. Walking to a clearly named gate is often faster than asking a driver to circle a block.
Vehicle and payment checks
Before opening the door, match the license plate and vehicle information shown in the app. Confirm the vehicle category: a larger or premium car may cost more than a regular sedan.
For app payment, verify that the correct card is selected before requesting. For pay-to-driver trips, do not assume every foreign contactless card will work. Carry a second card or modest cash reserve. Ask for a receipt, especially when expenses, lost property or a dispute may need a trip record.
Meter, toll and late-night logic
Taxi fares are regulated locally and can include distance, time, late-night or regional rules. Airport expressways can add tolls. Because these values are mutable and location-specific, this guide does not freeze a universal base fare.
The relevant comparison is complete door-to-door cost:
- metered or app fare;
- tolls and configured surcharges;
- number of travelers and bags;
- public-transport transfers otherwise required; and
- time and walking saved.

Safety and dispute record
Share the trip status with a companion when useful. Keep the plate, pickup time and destination. If immediate safety is threatened, call 112. For a non-emergency tourism or interpretation problem, contact 1330.
Do not follow a stranger to an unmarked car because they say the taxi queue is closed. At an airport or station, use the designated rank or an app-assigned vehicle.
A reliable taxi workflow
- Set the exact pickup and destination.
- Review vehicle type and payment.
- Match the plate before boarding.
- Follow the route enough to notice a wrong destination, without assuming every detour is fraud.
- Check the final receipt for tolls and payment status.
- Keep the record until no property or billing issue remains.
Taxis are most valuable when they remove a difficult first or last connection. Compare that convenience directly rather than assuming taxi is always luxurious or public transport is always cheaper for the whole group.
