What KORAIL actually publishes
KORAIL’s English carry-on page states a functional rule rather than a universal suitcase measurement: one passenger may carry no more than two pieces, must be able to move them personally, and must keep seats and aisles clear. The page does not give one guaranteed suitcase dimension for every KTX train type, so this guide does not invent one.

New in July 2026: large lithium batteries
A KORAIL rule effective July 1, 2026 restricts lithium-powered personal mobility devices, including electric kick scooters and electric bicycles, and portable lithium batteries over 160Wh. The official notice says ordinary small devices such as phones, laptops and common power banks are not part of that restriction. Electric wheelchairs and medical scooters are identified as mobility exceptions.
Source: KORAIL’s June 15, 2026 safety notice. Watt-hours, not marketing labels such as “large capacity,” are the useful check. If a battery shows only volts and amp-hours, do not rely on mental arithmetic at the platform—confirm its specification before the trip.
Bicycles and pets are separate cases
KORAIL’s carry-on guidance says a bicycle must be folded; a non-folding bicycle must be fully disassembled and placed in a bag. That general bicycle rule does not override the newer restriction on lithium-powered electric bicycles.
Pets must travel in a separate carrier. The English guidance specifies an animal under 10kg and a carrier with a total dimension of 100cm, shown as 45 × 30 × 25cm, together with required vaccination. Check the official page if your animal or carrier is near a boundary.
A low-stress packing plan
- Count separate pieces after attaching or removing smaller bags.
- Confirm that you can lift and move everything without staff assistance.
- Find the Wh marking on any unusually large portable battery.
- Keep the ticket’s train, car and seat numbers available until the trip is complete.
- Leave enough boarding time to place luggage without obstructing other passengers.
This checklist does not promise a particular rack or storage-space dimension. Rolling stock and the available space on a particular service can differ; the published safety and quantity rules remain the reliable planning boundary.
If your luggage goes missing
Tell station staff or the train attendant as soon as possible. KORAIL says the train number, car number and seat number can speed up the search. Items noticed later can be checked through the National Police Agency’s LOST112 system before contacting the railway customer center. Bring identification when collecting an item.
