How to book KTX tickets as a foreign visitor

Use KORAIL's official foreign-language booking channel, confirm the exact station and operator, and save the issued ticket. The most expensive mistakes happen before payment: choosing the wrong Seoul station, confusing KTX with SRT or buying a pass without comparing the itinerary.

Open the official KORAIL foreign-language site

Official-channel booking checklist

  1. Use the official foreign-language site. Start on KORAIL's global booking page rather than an unverified reseller result.
  2. Choose the exact stations. Confirm the origin and destination station, not only the city name.
  3. Check the train and operator. Verify that the result is the intended KTX service and not a separate SRT itinerary.
  4. Enter traveler details carefully. Use details that you can reproduce when retrieving or changing the booking.
  5. Review the complete ticket before payment. Check date, departure time, station, train, seat class, traveler count and final price.
  6. Save the issued ticket. Keep an accessible copy and use the official booking channel for any later change or refund request.
KORAIL states that its foreign-language booking website supports overseas-issued credit cards. Payment can still depend on the card issuer, authentication and the current checkout options, so this guide does not promise acceptance for every card.

Check the station, not only the city

Seoul Station

Common KTX origin for Busan, Dongdaegu and Gyeongju. Confirm that the fare guide uses the same station pair.

Yongsan Station

Important for Jeolla-line journeys such as Jeonju. “Seoul” in a travel plan does not always mean Seoul Station.

Suseo Station

Used by SRT, a separate operator. Do not count an SRT booking as KORAIL Pass coverage.

Gyeongju Station

The high-speed station is outside the historic center, so keep the local transfer in the trip budget.

Ticket first or KORAIL Pass first?

Build the individual-ticket baseline before purchasing a pass. Then compare that complete total with every currently active eligible product, including uncovered trains exactly once. A pass is not automatically better because one KTX leg is expensive.

Use the KORAIL Pass vs tickets guide for worked examples, then enter your dates in the KORAIL Pass calculator.

Before you pay

  • Confirm both the calendar date and departure time.
  • Confirm the exact origin and destination stations.
  • Check traveler count, seat class and train operator.
  • Review the final amount shown by the official checkout; do not rely on an old blog price.
  • Read the current change and refund conditions on the booking channel before payment.
  • During major Korean holidays, follow the current special reservation notice rather than ordinary assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Can a foreign visitor book KTX on the official website?

Yes. KORAIL provides a foreign-language booking website and states that overseas-issued cards are supported. A card issuer can still decline an individual transaction.

Is KTX the same as SRT?

No. KTX is operated through KORAIL services, while SRT is a separate operator using Suseo for many Seoul-area journeys. Check the station and operator before payment.

Do I need a KORAIL Pass before reserving a seat?

No. Ordinary KTX tickets can be purchased individually. A KORAIL Pass is a separate product and should be compared with the complete ticket total before purchase.

Does buying a KORAIL Pass guarantee a seat?

No. Pass validity and seat availability are separate. Follow the current official reservation procedure for each train you intend to use.
